Driver’s Permit
This is a permit issued to an individual who has successfully completed the requirements to obtain driver's permit.
Requirements- First Time Applicant
First/New issue based on Certificate of Competence
- One valid form of identification (National ID or Passport)
- Certificate of competence issued by the Police Department.
- Completed Driver’s Permit application form.
First/ New issue - based on a Foreign Driver’s Licence
- Applicant must be a citizen, have permanent residence, have indefinite stay in the country (must present proof of such).
- Applicants must present a valid foreign driver’s licence, Passport and National ID.
- Completed Driver’s Permit application form.
Note
- Applicant must have attained the age of seventeen (17).
- A certificate of competence is valid for six months from issue date.
- A driver’s permit can be issue for a period of one, three or five years and expires on the applicant’s birthday Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Regulations Section 13,14
Exemption
- A licence holder may be exempted for a period(s) if he/she was out of state for a period(s) of one or more years (birthdate to birthdate). Relevant documentation (Passport or a letter from the local Immigration Department) must be presented to validate such.
- A licence holder who has been incarcerated for a period of one or more years (birthdate to birthdate) must present a letter from the Prison Authority.
- A license holder who was unable to drive due to medical challenges may be exempted once he or she presents a medical certificate to the licensing officer
